Employment Criteria and Processes

Criteria

Anyone can be considered for employment, provided they:

  • are a New Zealand citizen
  • have the qualities and skills needed for the various positions, and
  • can satisfy the requirements of the security and psychological assessments.

Acknowledgement of applications

All applications for specific vacancies will be acknowledged but no further correspondence will be entered into unless the application is progressed.

Application confidentiality

All applications for employment with the NZSIS are handled in the strictest confidence.

It is essential that applicants maintain a similar level of confidentiality and do not discuss their application with others.

Recruitment process

All applicants should be aware that they will undergo a lengthy recruitment process which includes:

  • a number of interviews
  • psychological testing, and
  • in-depth background enquiries about personal circumstances.

The sensitivity of much of NZSIS's work, and the level of security clearance its employees require, is such that all information provided will be carefully considered and verified. After each stage of the process, applicants will be assessed in comparison with others at a similar stage. Only those who most closely meet NZSIS's requirements proceed to the next stage.
