Archives New Zealand Chief Executive and Chief Archivist Dianne Macaskill has announced that the 1951 Waterfront Dispute Files will be available in the Reading Room of the Wellington Office of Archives New Zealand in Mulgrave Street, from 27 March 2008.
The files originated with the Special Branch of the New Zealand Police, and were transferred to the custody of the NZSIS after its formation (as the New Zealand Security Service) in 1956. Because of the public interest in these records they were selected for declassification by the NZSIS, in consultation with the Police, and are the first group of early records to be transferred from the Service to Archives New Zealand.
